If you haven’t heard of Bakugan by now, then you had better check to see if you haven’t been living under a rock. Bakugan has been the current rage among kids for the past year and a half. Spin Masters is building a veritable empire for themselves with this franchise- not only is there a cartoon currently in its third season on Cartoon Network, there is a wildly popular collectible card game and many Bakugan toys and accessories to go along with it. A major motion picture release is currently in the works, along with a rumored Bakugan Battle Brawlers MMORPG. October marked the release of the first Bakugan video game released for Xbox, Playstation, and Nintendo Wii, and it has been quite a hit among fans.
In the game you create your own Bakugan Brawler who’s goal in life is to become the ultimate bakugan battle brawler. Using your mysterious Bakugan gaurdian Leonidas you work your way up the ranks of the Brawlers and slowly unravel a plot to destroy all the Bakugan! Will you be able to defeat Vladitor and save New Vestrioa?
During the course of the game you encounter the 6 famous Battle Brawlers and get to duel them and get helpful hints and tips as well. You battle on 6 different attributes of battlefields and each has special features and secrets to be unlocked. Each attribute of Bakugan also features a special shot that will give you an added bonus in your battles if you can get the power meter high enough. Waterfalls, waterslides, half pipes, and tornados make each battlefield unique and provides plenty of challenge and variety. As you earn more money you will be able to go to the local shops and buy more cards and Bakugan.
The game really shines when you play it on the Wii. Holding the A and B buttons lets you throw your balls onto the field and if your aim is right they will collect powerups and hit their mark. You can also shoot at your opponents Bakugan with the A button as they are rolling into play as well to throw it off course and make him miss his gate card. The models are beautifully rendered in cartoon cell shaded style, and the overall action of the game is great fun if you are a fan of Bakugan already. The game dynamics that the Wii controller offers makes this game a lot of fun and active to play.
Older gamers will have an easy time beating this game, however the younger crowd of gamers will likely find many hours of fun and amusement playing the Bakugan Video Game. Overall, the video game is great if you are a fan already. It’s not something newcomers to the world of Bakugan would find overly fascinating, but it provides a great outlet for fans to delve deeper into the Bakugan Universe.
