Wii Internet Channel Now Free To Download Published: November 26, 2009
Nintendo has dropped the price on it's internet browser for the Wii down to... free. Yes, you'll now be able to download and use the Wii's internet channel for the price of nothing.

When the Wii first came out, you could download a beta version of the Opera based browser, but soon after that Nintendo started charging for the full web browser. For 500 Wii Points you could surf the web on your Wii.
Though, that has changed now, Nintendo now offers the channel free for anyone to download. What about those who already paid the 500 Wii Points for the service? Worry not, as Nintendo also announced that beginning in October, those who did shell out on the channel can download a free NES game off of the Virtual Console library.
Along with the announcement, the Wii Internet Channel also received a flash update, bringing it from Flash 7 to Flash Lite 3.1. This should allow for some better browsing on the Wii. Read More... |

Nintendo's president Satoru Iwata has admitted that sales of the Wii console have stalled, in part due to a lack of must-have software.
The company released data yesterday that showed sales of the home console were down over 40 per cent in the six months to the end of September 2009, with 5.75 million Wii's sold worldwide, compared to 10 million the previous year.

As part of Nintendo's release of its financial results for the first half of its current fiscal year, the company reported that the DS' New Super Mario Brothers, which was launched in 2006, has sold 19,940,000 units worldwide.
So it beats Mario Kart DS, which is at 16,090,000 and Mario Kart Wii, which is at 18,360,000 copies sold.
Other big-sellers on NIntendo's chart include Wii Sports (bundled with the Wii in North America and Europe) at 50,540,000, Wii Play at 23,430,000 and Wii Fit at 22,500,000.
